Sunlake eyes return to playoffs

Now that high school football teams are allowed to practice, the Sunlake Seahawks are running routes, conducting seven-on-seven drills, sprinting and diving to the ball. They're working hard, but head coach Bill Browning isn't ready to hand out any awards just yet. "Seven-on-seven in the summer plays a role, but it's nothing but glorified PE (physical education) football," Browning said. … [Read more...]

After playoff exit, Sunlake looks again toward future

Sunlake head coach Bill Browning knows that to win a playoff game against a quality opponent, a team needs to play four good quarters of football. On Nov. 21, he only got three. “We won the second, third and fourth quarters,” he said. “Unfortunately, we lost the first quarter, but we lost the first quarter bad.” Bad enough to put the Seahawks in a 17-0 deficit they couldn’t overcome … [Read more...]

Sunlake wary of Land O’ Lakes ahead of rivalry game

The Sunlake Seahawks have had a strong start to the 2014 season. They’ve given up a total of just 26 points in seven games, including four shutouts. Their 6-1 record includes a district loss, but the team is still in good position to capture a playoff berth if they take care of business the rest of the way. Toward the bottom of the Class 6A-District 6 standings is Land O’ Lakes. The … [Read more...]

Browning, Sunlake eye district title in 2014

Sunlake High School has come a long way since head coach Bill Browning led the Seahawks onto the field for their inaugural season back in 2007.
