Community Baby Shower

Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation will host “It Takes a Village Community Baby Shower” on April 15 at 10 a.m., to help alleviate the financial burden for up to 25 new or expectant parents.

Organizers are asking the community for donations. Needed items include diapers, diaper bags, baby thermometers, pacifiers, receiving blankets, baby clothes and more. There is a compiled Amazon Wish List that can ship the items directly to the Roy Haynes Recreation Center, 1092 S. Village Ave., in Tampa. Other donations can be dropped off through April 10 at the University Area Community Complex, 14013 N. 22nd St., in Tampa, where the baby shower will take place. Donors are asked to first call Carrie Albano at 813-836-1839 to arrange a drop-off time.

Expectant or recent parents who want to participate in the shower must register by calling Carrie Albano at 813-836-1830 or Sara Roman at 813-558-5212, ext. 403. The deadline to register is April 10.

Casino Night

The third annual Charity “Viva Las Vegas” Casino Night to benefit Gulfside Hospice is scheduled for March 31, at Hilton Garden Inn Tampa-Wesley Chapel, 26640 Silver Maple Parkway in Wesley Chapel. The event is for ages 21 and older. Tickets include three hours of gaming with fun money tokens, prizes, hors d’oeuvres, one free drink from the cash bar, photo booth access and valet parking. Cocktail attire is suggested. All proceeds raised will provide patient care and bereavement support in Pasco County. Tickets are available at CharityCasinoNight.org, or by calling 727-845-5707.

Thrive Over 55

The Laker/Lutz News will host a “Thrive Over 55” Senior Expo on April 5 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at B&B Theatre, 6333 Wesley Grove Blvd., in Wesley Chapel. The event will include free breakfast/lunch; product samples; giveaways and discount offers; free health screenings; and, door prizes and giveaways — all to help enhance your lifestyle. Grief support group

Hearing aid batteries

The Sertoma Speech and Hearing Foundation of Florida will have a Hearing Aid Battery Giveaway on Feb. 8 from 8 a.m. to noon, at its office at 5211 U.S. 19, Suite 200, in New Port Richey. Light Up the Night

The David Maus Foundation will present “Light Up the Night” on Feb. 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at The Shops at Wiregrass, at the top of the parking garage, in support of The Human Trafficking Foundation. The event aims to bring awareness to human trafficking, to fight against it, and support survivors. Volunteer for SHINE

The SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) Program is a statewide volunteer program that offers seniors, adults with disabilities, and their caregivers free, unbiased counseling on Medicare, prescription drugs, and other insurance matters.

The SHINE SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol) Program educates beneficiaries on how to protect, detect and report suspected Medicare fraud, waste and abuse.

Individuals who would like to help prepare others for some of the most crucial decisions in life make successful volunteers for SHINE.

Virtual support groups

The Alliance for Healthy Communities will host virtual health sessions every Wednesday at 1 p.m., via Zoom (Meeting ID: 864 2883 2023; Passcode: 355593).

Weekly topics include: mindfulness, self-care for caregivers, child safety, and education and resources.
