David Weekley Opens New Grenada Model At Bexley

June 19, 2019 By Special to The Laker/Lutz News

David Weekley Homes is celebrating the introduction of its new Manor Home Series with the opening of its Grenada model in Bexley, a Newland community located in Land O’ Lakes along the in-demand State Road 54 corridor.

This is Weekley’s third model home in Bexley, and the latest to open. This beautiful home showcases an open-concept layout on the first floor, with spacious kitchen, dining and living areas, an office/den, 4 bedrooms, 3 baths and 3-car garage. On the second floor are a large bonus room and half bath. The home has a total of 2,938 square feet.

The Grenada showcases an open-concept layout on the first floor.

“This is one of our most innovative new floor plans,” said Jennifer Cole, senior marketing director for David Weekley Homes in Tampa. “Buyers love the openness and convenience of first floor living, and the bonus room on the second floor gives families a getaway space for teens and hobbies.”

The Grenada’s gourmet kitchen is open and airy with loads of soft close cabinets, features an oven and microwave combination, a gas range and stylish wood hood, and wine cooler off the dining room. A large quartz island dramatically separates the kitchen from the formal dining room and family room.

The Owner’s Retreat has large windows overlooking the pool with breathtaking, long views of wetlands, cypress trees and wilderness. The spa-like bathroom has a freestanding modern tub and oversized, open shower designed for two. The walk-in closet is as large as a small bedroom, with built-in shelves and space that extends under the stairwell.

The Grenada is one of seven floor plans available in the Manor Series, which range from 2,537to 3,783square feet in one- and two-story floor plans, all with 3-car garages. Homes in the Manor Series are built on 70-foot lots — some of the largest in Bexley — with most backing up to wetlands and protected conservation areas.

The Grenada’s gourmet kitchen is open and airy with loads of soft close cabinets.

Two inventory homes are currently being built — the Boulevard and Beckwith. Both will be completed before the start of the 2019-20 school year.

“If you’re looking for a new home before the new school year begins, look no farther than our Manor Series of homes in Bexley and its top-rated schools,” said Cole. Bexley families attend Bexley Elementary, located inside the community, and Charles S. Rushe Middle and Sunlake High schools, and located less than two miles away.

At 3,197 square feet, the Boulevard home under construction is another one-story plan. Its open-concept plan features 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, office/study and a unique retreat that’s perfect as a playroom or hobby area. From the home’s stunning entry, one can see to the back of the home into the oversized backyard. The gourmet gas kitchen has stainless appliances, trendy farmhouse sink and classic white quartz countertops. The bath in the owner’s suite has a walk-in super shower, white cabinets, quartz countertop with double sinks, and a huge closet.

The second inventory home in the Manor Series is the award-winning Beckwith. This two-story plan, which features the master suite on the first floor, has 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths and 3-car garage. A beautiful foyer opens to the dining room on the left, and a study on right, with sight-lines to the back of the home.  Stunning RevWood  flooring is planned for throughout the first floor to give this home a rich character. The gourmet gas kitchen has spacious granite countertops, stainless appliances and stylish vent hood. The private owner’s suite includes a comfortable sitting area, with a bath that boasts a massive walk-in shower and huge walk-in closet. Upstairs the home has 3 bedrooms and bonus room.

Manor Series homes start from the $460s. David Weekly also offers the Cottage and Village Series in Bexley, which combined offer 10 floor plans ranging from 2,300 to 3,500 square feet built on 50- and 60-foot homesites. Each series has a beautifully furnished model home opened Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

David Weekley Homes is offering a 5 percent discount on all Quick Move-In Homes at Bexley that are contracted by July 31 during their Summer Savings Event. This discount can be applied toward the purchase price , closing costs, or toward an appliance package and blinds.

The Bexley Difference Where miles of trails lead you home

September 29, 2017 By Special to The Laker/Lutz News

What a difference a year makes.

Since Bexley by Newland Communities debuted in Land O’ Lakes 10 months ago, this outstanding community has already distinguished itself as one of the Top 10 selling communities in the Tampa Bay market, and has been recognized as the best master planned community in the Southeast.

“We couldn’t be happier with the response we’ve received to Bexley,” said Pam Parisi, vice president of marketing for Newland Communities, the developer behind Bexley. “Our residents love the uniqueness of Bexley. It’s just a wonderful community to live in, whether you’re a family with kids, just starting out, or looking to downsize.”

Centrally located in Land O’ Lakes, at State Road 54 and the Suncoast Parkway, Bexley is an 1,825-acre community with significant conservation areas, that offers residents a sporty, social lifestyle that maximizes its pristine natural surroundings.

No doubt, people are taking notice of Bexley. The Southeast Building Conference recognized Bexley as the top master-planned community in the Southeast, awarding the community its highest honor, a Grand Aurora.

Central, Accessible Location

Bexley’s prime location next to the Suncoast Parkway offers fast, convenient access to many areas of Tampa and area beaches.

Bexley Village Drive has been open since the spring providing direct access to the Suncoast Parkway. It connects Tower Road to State Road 54, allowing residents to bypass Ballentrae Road for State Road 54 access.

Several commercial businesses have announced development plans in the area, including a convenience store and hotel. Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel is also building an emergency department within the Bexley community, which is scheduled to be complete in 2018.

Welcome to the Club

The Bexley Club, an award-winning lakefront clubhouse, is the hub of the community, with the popular Twisted Sprocket Café, a gathering place that is open to the public. Guests can enjoy a delicious menu of breakfast items, gourmet lunches, dessert, smoothies, wine, craft beer and coffee drinks served by Chef Ashley Davis and her team.

The second phase of The Bexley Club opened earlier this summer. It includes two resort-style pools, cardio-focused fitness center, screened-in game room, outdoor fire pit and an event lawn for community festivals and gatherings.

Best Schools

The newly constructed Bexley Elementary School opened its doors to students in August to help accommodate the many families that are moving to Bexley. Located within the community, the new elementary school features a state-of-the-art media and computer center. For upper grades, top-rated schools assigned to Bexley are Charles S. Rushe Middle School and Sunlake High School.

Trails and Parks

Spanning Bexley’s 1,200 acres of preserved wilderness are exceptional trails to hike, bike and run. Designed by outdoor-living pioneer Avid Trails, several outdoor Fit Stations are located throughout the trail to keep workouts interesting and fresh. The community also offers open space for sports fields, a BMX pump park bicycle course and custom-made playgrounds, as well as two dog parks (one for large breeds and the other for small).

About Newland

Bexley is the fourth master-planned community for Newland in the Tampa Bay area,

joining other award-winning communities of Fishhhawk Ranch, Mirabay and Waterset in south Hillsborough County.

New start times for some schools

April 12, 2017 By B.C. Manion

The Pasco County School Board has approved school bell times for the 2017-2018, and those times include some changes for schools within The Laker/Lutz News coverage area.

Here’s a look at which schools are getting new starting times, along with an explanation that was provided in a news release from Pasco County Schools.

  • Bexley Elementary, 4380 Ballantrae Blvd., a new school, will begin its school day at 9:40 a.m. and finish the day at 3:50 p.m.
  • Cypress Creek Middle/High School, 8701 Old Pasco Road, also a new school, will begin its school day at 7:25 a.m. and finish it at 1:50 p.m.
  • Land O’ Lakes High School, 20325 Gator Lane, will begin its day at 7:25 a.m. and end it at 1:55 p.m. The school’s starting time is five minutes earlier to provide additional time for passing between classes. The additional time is needed because the school will be undergoing a large construction project.
  • Charles S. Rushe Middle School, 18654 Mentmore Blvd., will begin its school day at 7:25 a.m. and finish it at 1:40 p.m. Rushe’s school day previously started at 8:40 a.m. and ended at 2:50 p.m. The new starting and ending times are needed to balance routes associated with the opening of the district’s new transportation garage and compressed natural gas (CNG) filling station in Odessa.
  • Wiregrass Ranch High School, 2909 Mansfield Blvd., will have a starting time of 7:25 a.m. and ending time of 1:56 p.m. for all students. The school had been using dual bell times associated with a 10-period day, but the school will resume a normal schedule with the opening of Cypress Creek Middle/High School in August.

In Print: This is not your typical Amazon summertime excursion

October 8, 2014 By Special to The Laker/Lutz News

Missionary work, especially the kind that takes you around the world, is very important. And that could include all kinds of jobs — educators, builders, doctors, you name it.

But what about hairstylists?

Mayra Santiago helps many customers at Ulta Beauty at The Grove at Wesley Chapel. But this past summer, she traveled to Colombia, where the 43-year-old made sure the people living in the Amazon had the best haircuts Florida can offer.

“I never, never, never in my life expected to cut hair in the Amazon,” Santiago told reporter B.C. Manion.

Santiago made the trip with her church, Vida Community Church, which is temporarily based in Land O’ Lakes, but draws from the region. It’s a bilingual congregation led by pastors Dwight and Lizania Miranda, which has a heart for missions.

Just like how Santiago has a heart for cutting hair. “It’s my passion,” she said.

What was the trip like? What kind of stories did Santiago bring back? Find out in this week’s print edition of The Laker/Lutz News, available on newsstands now. Or if you prefer the digital age, you can get our online e-edition absolutely free by clicking here.

The Sunlake Seahawks volleyball team is poised to accomplish no other volleyball team has accomplished at the school before: Make the playoffs.

Coach Deann Newton has led her team to its second year in a row with a winning record. And while the 16-10 mark last year caused them to just miss the postseason, Sunlake’s 14-4 record through last Friday may end up with a far different result.

“Before, it wasn’t as serious,” junior Gianna Basulto told reporter Michael Murillo. “But when Coach Newton showed up, it was like game on. This is how we’re going to do it. She was very straight-forward, and I love that about her because that’s the type of coach that I and the whole team need.”

So what does the future hold for the Sunlake Seahawks this season? Find out in the print edition of The Laker/Lutz News, or you can read it on your computer or tablet device by clicking here.

Finally, Dave Estabrook spent 35 years helping to mold minds and lead education programs in the Land O’ Lakes area. Now the retired principal is being honored by one of his former schools when Charles S. Rushe Middle School names its media center after him.

David Salerno, who succeeded Estabrook as principal of the school, said naming the media center after him made sense, because it completely matched Estabrook’s leadership style.

“Immediately, I observed a leader who made it his mission to seek input from many stakeholders — as many stakeholders as possible — when making decisions,” Salerno said. “Not only that, he specifically sought out people that he thought might have a different point of view. He believed in the importance of considering all aspects of problems before recommending a solution.”

And the praise didn’t stop there. Read it all in this week’s print edition of The Laker/Lutz News, or get a peek at what it looks like coming from the digital realm by clicking here.

All of these stories and more can be found in this week’s The Laker/Lutz News, available in newsstands throughout east and central Pasco County as well as northern Hillsborough County.
