The Diocese of St. Petersburg will host the annual Hispanic Mass/Misa Hispana on Oct. 8 at 11 a.m., at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle, 5815 Fifth Ave., N., in St. Pete. The day begins at 10 a.m., with the praying of the rosary, followed by the procession of Our Lady of Aparecida, the patroness of Brazil. A small reception will follow the Mass. Brooksville Founders’ Week
The City of Brooksville will celebrate 160 years during its weeklong Founders’ Week celebration Oct. 8 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) through Oct. 15 (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.). The week will conclude with a car show on Oct. 15, at historic downtown Brooksville on Main Street and Fort Dade Avenue. Car show entry fee is $10. 10/08/2016 – Old Timer’s Picnic
The annual Old Timer’s Picnic will take place on Oct. 8 in the Clayton Building at the Pasco County Fairgrounds. Food will be served at noon. Guests should bring a covered dish to share, along with their own table service. Ice tea and lemonade will be provided. Anyone who has lived in Pasco County for more than 20 years is considered an “old timer.” Guests are encouraged to bring old photos, newspaper clippings and items of interest for Pasco County families. There will be a short business meeting to elect officers to the Old Timer’s Picnic Association. Prizes will be awarded to the oldest man, the oldest woman, the couple married the longest, and the person who traveled the greatest distance to attend. The Museum of Science & Industry, 4801 E. Fowler Ave., in Tampa, will host “An Afternoon with an Astronaut” on Oct. 8 at noon and again at 3 p.m. Story Musgrave will give a talk about saving the Hubble space telescope and take questions from the audience, followed by the showing of the Imax film “Hubble.” Tickets for the two-hour event are $10 for MOSI members, or $15 for non-members. The Pioneer Florida Museum & Village, 15602 Pioneer Museum Road in Dade City, will host a Scarecrow Festival on Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a great pumpkin drop at 1 p.m. Guests can make their own scarecrow.
