Alzheimer’s organization benefits from promotion

The Pasco County Tax Collector’s Office raised $3,386.72 for the Alzheimer’s Family Organization through its charitable giving promotion. The AFO provides educational programs, support services and assistance to caregivers, families and individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Alternative to surgery

The Heart Institute at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point will offer a wellness community lecture called “An Alternative to Surgery/Explore the Options” on Sept. 29 at the Fox Hollow Country Club, 10050 Robert Trent Jones Parkway in Trinity.

Registration begins at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 5:30 p.m.

Dr. Gopal Chalavarya will discuss a nonsurgical approach to repairing abdominal aortic aneurisms and carotid artery disease.

Pregnancy center fundraiser

The annual fundraising banquet for Pregnancy Care Center of Zephyrhills will take place on Oct. 15 at Alliance Church of Zephyrhills, 6251 Fort King Road. Doors open at 5 p.m., for the silent auction. Health care service grants

The Hillsborough County Hospital Authority is offering opportunities for direct, health care service grants for the Authority’s fiscal year.

A direct, health care service is defined as a delivery of a direct service that improves a client’s physical or mental health condition. Examples include, but are not limited to, screening functions such as blood pressure; hearing and eye exams; delivery of immunizations; and, distribution of child safety equipment.

No grant funds shall be used for administrative overhead or acquisition of equipment or systems for the applicant.

The Authority may award up to three grants to eligible Florida nonprofit corporations. The submission deadline is Oct. 3 at 5 p.m.

Orthopedic presentations

Florida Hospital Zephyrhills, 7050 Gall Blvd., will host free orthopedic presentations in its Old Wellness Center Conference Room, off the main lobby.

  • Oct. 3 at 6 p.m.: “Minimally Invasive Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair.” Dr. Brian Domby will discuss who is a candidate for the surgery, when it may be medically necessary, what is involved, recovery time and more.
  • Oct. 5 at 12:15 p.m.: “Getting Down to the Bare Bones.” Dr. Gerald Alexander III will host the open forum for questions about aching joints, arthritis, hip and/or knee pain.

Peripheral arterial disease

Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point will host a Tuesday Tutorial, “Peripheral Arterial Disease: From Head to Toe,” on Oct. 4 at the Rao Musunuru MD Conference Center, 14100 Yosemite Drive in Hudson. Dr. Keshav Ramireddy, board certified in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology and internal medicine, will lead the seminar. Registration and lunch begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by the tutorial at noon. Admission is free. ‘Bare bones’ seminar

Annual NAMI banquet

The Pasco County affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will celebrate its 10th annual Mental Illness Awareness Week Education & Awards Banquet on Oct. 5 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Spartan Manor, 6121 Massachusetts Ave., in New Port Richey.

This is a sit-down dinner with a cash bar. Tickets are $45 for members, and $55 for non-members.

Proceeds will benefit NAMI Pasco’s nonprofit mission of education and advocacy provided at no cost to the citizens, families and caregivers of Pasco County individuals dealing with the effects of mental illness.

The event is in collaboration with Pasco Children’s Mental Health Partnership, which includes Pasco County Schools, Staywell, and Chrysalis Health.

Stress reduction group

Florida Cancer Affiliates, 3611 Little Road in Trinity, will offer a stress reduction group meeting on Oct. 5 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The group is for anyone who feels overwhelmed at times, is struggling to find a balance in life, or wants a place to freely express feelings with those going through similar experiences.

Stress can be work or school related, relationship stress, caregiver stress, illness or health stress, parenting or family stress, or financial stress.
