Military families free at MOSI

The Museum of Science & Industry, 4801 E. Fowler Ave., is offering free admission to all active-duty members of the United States military and their families, until Sept. 5. Service members need ID and can bring up to five family members. Military members do not need to be present for their families to visit. The free admission program is available to any bearer of a DD Form 1173 ID card, a Geneva Convention common access card, or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card. 06/14/2016 – Inaugural flag raising

The Shops at Wiregrass, in Wesley Chapel, will host an Inaugural Flag Raising Celebration on June 14 as a formal dedication of its newly constructed flag pole. The pole will be permanently located on Piazza Avenue, at the valet circle near the restaurants.

The ceremony will start at 7 p.m., and will include the Presentation of Colors by the Wesley Chapel Honor Guard, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the singing of the National Anthem by Eric Johnson. Pasco County Commissioner Mike Moore will call for the raising of the inaugural flag.

Medical outreach

The Samaritan Project and First Church of the Nazarene will host a Medical Outreach event on June 8 from 9 a.m. to noon, at 6151 12th St., in Zephyrhills. There will be free medical, free haircuts, showers available, and outreach organizations such as United Way, Premier Health Care, Well Care, Thomas Promise, Pregnancy Care Center, Connections, One Blood and IR Staffing. The Shops at Wiregrass in Wesley Chapel will host a Summer Mall-Wide Job Fair on June 7 from 4 p.m. to  6 p.m. Job seekers should iron their best suit, shine their shoes and get their resume ready. Store employers have individual requirements, such as minimum age and experience. Potential employees will have the opportunity to fill out applications in-person and speak with managers about their relative experiences for various positions. Seniors needed for memory performance classes

The University of South Florida Research Study PRO#19415 is looking for adults ages 60 to 80 for a study on the impact of piano training on cognitive performance and psychosocial well-being in older adults. USF has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts to provide seniors with free piano lessons or computer brain training to examine the effects on memory performance.

Classes meet twice a week for 90 minutes. The next training session will start Aug. 1. All materials, training and parking are free to participants.

Summer piano sessions also are open to adults ages 50 to 80 with a formal diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. To see if you qualify, contact Jennifer Bugos at (813) 517-9625 or .

Lou Gehrig disease seminar

Grace Lutheran Church at Carrollwood, 3714 W. Linebaugh Ave., will offer a forum on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig Disease, on June 2 at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be Garnet Bailey, regional development manager of the ALS Association. Bailey will discuss an overview of ALS, current treatments, and support services offered by the ALS Society. Maternity suites grand opening

The Maternity Suites at Oak Hill Hospital will host a grand opening celebration on June 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the third floor, North Tower, 11375 Cortez Blvd., in Brooksville. Guests can tour the maternity suites and receive one ticket per person for a free barbecue lunch. The tour includes six labor and delivery suites, 10 postpartum recovery suites, two ante-partum labor suites, a Cesarean surgical suite, and a 12-position holding nursery for babies who need special monitoring or continuous observation. For information, call (352) 597-6317.
