Tobacco cessation

The Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, 14000 Fivay Road in Hudson, will offer a free tobacco cessation class on May 18, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Participants will learn the health risks associated with tobacco use, the benefits of quitting, symptoms of nicotine withdrawal, and the triggers that can sabotage the quitting process.

Free nicotine replacement therapy will be offered while supplies last, if medically appropriate.

Balance program

Community Aging and Retirement Services, in partnership with the Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, will have balance classes May 18 through July 6, every Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Rao Musunuru MD Conference Center, 14100 Yosemite Drive in Hudson.

The sessions include group discussion, problem-solving strategies, videos and gentle physical exercise. Older adults can learn positive coping methods to reduce the fear of falling, and remain active and independent.

Compose a Heart & other immigrant stories is a multimedia presentation made up of spoken work, solo clarinet and/or piano, a slideshow of images, audio recordings and moving narratives. The Sisterhood of Congregation of Beth Am, 2030 W. Fletcher Ave., in Tampa, is sponsoring this event on May 22 at 2 p.m. The performance is brought to you by the Isser & Rae Price Library of Judaica at the University of Florida. The Republican Club of Central Pasco will feature State Sen. Wilton Simpson at its meeting on May 23. The group meets at 6:30 p.m., for refreshments, with the general meeting beginning at 7 p.m. Simpson will talk about actions taken during the previous legislative session and will cover future issues expected in 2017. Sensory friendly films at Cobb

Grove 16 Cobb Theatres, 6333 Wesley Grove Blvd., in Wesley Chapel, will show sensory friendly family films where kids can be kids in a safe and accepting environment. The auditoriums are made more comfortable with brighter lights, and the sound level is turned down. The audience is encouraged to be themselves and interact with the movie, while having fun without the worry of disturbing others. Guests can sing and dance during the movies. Shows begin at 10 a.m.

05/21/2016 – Church rummage sale

Harvester United Methodist Church, 2432 Collier Parkway in Land O’ Lakes, is having an indoor rummage sale on May 21, from 7 a.m. until noon. It will feature furniture, decorative items, clothing, purses, shoes, jewelry, baby items, toys, tools, small appliances, electronics, linens, baskets, books CDs and other items. The Sisters in Spirit women’s group will be selling baked items, too.

Rosecastle of Zephyrhills Assisted Living and Memory Care, at 37411 Eiland Blvd., in Zephyrhills, is having a craft fair on May 20, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will feature an assortment of artists and vendors offering jewelry, designer handbags, decorative items, edibles and more. A $3 lunch special of a hot dog, chips and a drink also will be available. The public is welcome and there is no charge to attend.

05/19/2016 – Digital photography class

The Wilderness Lake Preserve Birding and Photography Club will sponsor an introductory seminar called “Overview of Digital Photography” on May 19 from 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., at the Wilderness Lake Preserve Lodge theater, 21320 Wilderness Lake Blvd., in Land O’ Lakes. The cost is $3 for Wilderness residents, and $3.30 for non-residents. Seats are limited.
