05/11/2016 – Embroiders’ Guild

The Gulfview Chapter of Embroiders’ Guild of America will meet on May 11 at 10:30 a.m., at its new location, Veterans Memorial Park, 14333 Hicks Road in Hudson. 05/10/2016 – Native plant society

The Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society will meet May 10 at 7 p.m., at the Land O’ Lakes Community Center, 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd. Prem Subrahmanyam will present “Orchids in our Backyard: Florida’s Wild Orchids.” There will be light refreshments and a native plant drawing. 05/09/2016 – Big Cat & Brew Run

Big Cat Rescue and Tampa Bay Brewing Company will host the “Big Cat & Brew Run” on May 9 at the brewing company’s Westchase location, 13937 Monroe’s Business Park in Tampa. Runners laps and a kids’ 1-mile fun run start at 6:30 p.m., followed by the beer drinkers run and relay at 7:30 p.m., both with prizes. Tickets are $10 per 1-mile lap, and $60 for a three-person team. Pay at the door, cash only. All proceeds will go to support Big Cat Rescue’s mission of providing a safe home for lions, tigers, bobcats, cougars and other big cats.

Congregation Kol Ami, 3919 Moran Road in Tampa, will host Matti Friedman, author of “The Aleppo Codex: In Pursuit of One of the World’s Most Coveted, Sacred, and Mysterious Books” and “Pumpkinflowers: A Soldier’s Story,” on May 9 at 7:45 p.m. His lecture will be on “Israel: The perception and Reality in the Middle Eastern Storm.” There will be a dessert reception and book signing afterward. Oak Hill Hospital, 11375 Cortez Blvd., in Brooksville, will host its annual Kids’ Safety Fair on May 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the North Tower visitor parking lot. There will be vendors, giveaways, emergency vehicles, and a meet-and-greet with emergency room physicians and hospital staff. Kids also can learn about water, scooter, bike and skateboard safety,  Admission is free. For information, call (352) 597-6317.

05/07/2016 – Tax collector office closed May 7

All five of the Pasco County Tax Collector’s offices will be closed May 7 for relocation of data processing equipment. As a result, the Pasco County Tax Collector’s offices will be unable to process any transactions on that date.

05/07/2016 – The Market Place

The Market Place will be open in Hibiscus Park, Seventh Street and Bougainvillea Avenue, in Dade City, on May 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with entertainment from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This outdoor vendor experience will include birdbaths and feeders, fruit and vegetables, homemade cookies, soaps, bath salts and bubble bath bars, honey products and more. Dogs on a leash are welcome, but guests must bring a baggie to pick up after their pet. Admission is free.
