Family care class

The Maternity Suites at Oak Hill Hospital will host a class on new family care on April 23 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Graduate Medical Education Building, 11307 Cortez Blvd., in Brooksville.

The class aims to prepare families to care for newborns, as well as each other. Parents will learn newborn care, postpartum recovery, and how important support for the family is. There will be video animations, and realistic newborn models to demonstrate holding, bathing and safety. The class will be followed by a tour.

Run to fight obesity

The Tampa YMCA Teen Leaders’ Club will host a “Run with the River” 5K on April 23 at the Hillsborough River State Park, 15402 U.S. 301 N., in Thonotosassa.

This is a chip-timed race through the roads and trails of the park. Participants will receive a shirt. There also is a 1-mile fun run for kids younger than age 12. Registered participants will receive a medal and a shirt. There are 100 spots available for the fun run.

Check-in is at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K at 9 a.m., and the fun run at 10 a.m.

The cost is $20 for 5K runners, and $15 for the fun run. All proceeds will go toward the teen leaders’ club.

Breast-feeding for beginners

The Maternity Suites at Oak Hill Hospital, 11307 Cortez Blvd., in Brooksville, will host a beginners’ breast-feeding class on April 23 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Topics will include how breast-feeding works, latching and positioning, making enough milk, breast-feeding lifestyle, breast-feeding care, pumping and storage, and returning to work.

Your posture and work

The Health & Wellness Center at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel, 2700 Healing Way, will offer a seminar “Bad Posture and Bad Work Ergonomics: How to help you quit your slouching” on April 26 at noon.

Participants can find out what techniques can be used that will help in everyday life.

Cardio-pulmonary rehab

The Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point will host a Tuesday Tutorial on “Cardio-Pulmonary Rehab” on April 26, at the Rao Musunuru MD Conference Center, 14100 Yosemite Drive in Hudson. Keith Cotter, lead exercise physiologist, will present the program.

Registration and lunch begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by the tutorial at noon.

Advanced directives seminar

Gulfside Hospice & Pasco Palliative Care will host a seminar about end-of-life decisions and advanced care planning on April 27 at 2 p.m., at Regency Park Library, 9701 Little Road in New Port Richey.

Complimentary copies of Aging with Dignity’s Five Wishes, a living will, will be distributed to participants. Gulfside representative Jennifer Chianella will discuss the benefits of Five Wishes, as well as answer questions or concerns about the document and end-of-life decisions.

Healthy Kids Day

The East Pasco Family YMCA, 37301 Chapel Hill Loop in Zephyrhills, will host a free Healthy Kids Day on April 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be active games, snacks and crafts to motivate and teach families how to develop healthy routines at home.

04/30/2016 – Take Back the Night

The Sexual Violence Task Force of Tampa Bay will host “Take Back the Night” on April 30 from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., at North Straub Park in downtown St. Petersburg. Survivors of sexual assault and domestic abuse, along with community supporters, family and friends, will gather for a night of empowerment and healing. There also will be a music festival, resource fair, ceremony, candlelight vigil and more. For information, call Ken Gibson at (813) 410-4129.

04/30/2016 – Taste of Pasco

Taste of Pasco

The Taste of Pasco returns on April 30 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at The Rotary Pavilion at the Concourse in Spring Hill. Guests can sample food and beverages from local restaurants to raise money for local nonprofit organizations. Proceeds this year will help fund projects for The Angelus, Pasco Kids First, and the PACE Center for Girls-Pasco. There also will be live music and children’s activities. 04/30/2016 – Spring youth fest
