MEGA Heart Expo

The Heart Institute at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills will host a Mega Heart Expo on Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at East Pasco Seventh-day Adventist Church, 7333 Dairy Road in Zephyrhills. The event is named after the MEGA heart, the world’s only portable, inflatable, walk-through heart exhibit, which will be on display.

East Pasco cardiologists will give 45-minute presentations on cardiovascular disease, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, and blood clots.

There also will be a health fair including CPR demonstrations, managing diabetes and heart disease, and healthy snack samples. A light continental breakfast and mid-morning refreshments will be provided. Each guest will receive a giveaway.

Free screenings, such as EKGs, leg and vein, and a complete lipid profile, will be provided.

EKGs are by appointment only, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Help horse therapy ranch

During the month of February, the Pasco County Tax Collector’s Office will collect donations for the Kiddy Up Horse Therapy Ranch, a therapy and learning academy in New Port Richey. Children and veterans with disabilities are two groups that receive services from the ranch. For information about Kiddy Up, visit KiddyUpRanch.org. 02/25/2016 – Trash to Flash fashion show

The GFWC Lutz-Land O’ Lakes Woman’s Club will host its annual ‘’Trashy to Flashy Fashion Show” on Feb. 25 at 11 a.m., at the Lutz Community Center, behind the Lutz Library, 101 First Ave., N.W.  The event is open to the pubic and features whacky outfits pulled together from donations to the club’s upcoming flea market on March 4 and March 5 at the Old Lutz School. Guests can literally buy the fashions off the models’ backs. A soup and salad luncheon, including beverages and desserts, will be served for $6. All proceeds will benefit Very Special Arts (VSA), which provides special needs school children with art supplies and projects. For information, call (813) 528-1179.

02/12/2016 – Library book bazaar

The Hugh Embry Library, 14215 Fourth St., in Dade City, will host a book bazaar on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. There will be a diverse selection of books, audio and video media, magazines, and related materials, most for less than $3. For information, call (352) 567-3576.

02/09/2016 – Coin collector series

The Tampa Jewish Community Center & Federation, 13009 Community Campus Drive in Tampa, will host a coin collection series hosted by John Frost, owner of Gilder Shop Coins & Currency. Frost will give free appraisals on coins and will provide information on how to become a coin collector. Classes will start on Feb. 9 from 10:30 a.m.to 11:30 a.m., once a month. 02/09/2016 – Native plant society

The Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society will meet Feb. 9 at 7 p.m., at the Land O’ Lakes Community Center, 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd. Chris Parisi, owner of Restless Natives Nursery in Tarpon Springs, will present “Florida’s Native Milkweeds in the Wild and in Your Garden.” Light refreshments will be served. 02/07/2016 – ‘Amadeus’ at Tampa Theatre

Tampa Theatre, 711 N. Franklin St., in Tampa, will show the movie “Amadeus,” as part of its best picture classic series, on Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. The movie centers around the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Tickets are $10, and $8 for theater members. For information, visit TampaTheatre.org.

02/06/2016 – Audubon society events

The West Pasco Audubon Society will meet for an early morning bird walk on Feb. 6 at 8 a.m., at J.B. Starkey Wilderness Park Education Center, 10500 Wilderness Road in New Port Richey. And, at 3 p.m., there will be a program presented on the wildflowers most likely to be seen in the area, as well as native gardening. The society’s next field trip will be Feb. 20 to the Celery Fields and Felts Preserve. Participants should meet at 7 a .m., by Panera’s at Little Road and State Road 54.
