The Pasco County Extension Office will offer a worm composting seminar on Feb. 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Land O’ Lakes Library, 2818 Collier Parkway. Guests can learn how to harness the power of red wiggler worms to turn garden waste and food scraps into nutrient-rich organic fertilizer. The seminar also will cover how to choose a container, the types of food scraps and garden waste to compost, methods for harvesting worm compost, and other tips. 01/27/2016 – Genocide survivor to speak at St. Tim’s
As part of its celebration in the Catholic Church’s Year of Mercy, Saint Timothy Catholic Church, 17512 Lakeshore Road in Lutz, is presenting Immaculee Ilibagazi, a survivor of the Rwandan genocide. Ilibagazi’s story became a best seller, and she was featured in documentaries and on 60 Minutes. She will be speaking on Jan. 27 at 7 p.m., and Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. A Mass will precede each talk.

Paul Gigante, a professional school photographer since 1991 in Tampa Bay, is hosting a benefit to help less fortunate homeless high school seniors, as they transition after graduation to start college careers. Gigante will host a “H4 Benefit” (Helping Our Homeless High Schoolers Achieve Higher Education) at Skipper’s Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road in Tampa, on Jan. 24 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Entertainment will include the USF “HOT” Pep Band, The Butch Ryan Band, local disc jockeys, and others. There also will be silent auctions, sports memorabilia, gift baskets, a 50/50 raffle, corn hole tournament, photo booth and more.
