The National Alliance on Mental Illness Hernando County will offer a free six-week NAMI Basics educational program starting Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m., at the NAMI Beautiful Mind Center, 10554 Spring Hill Drive in Spring Hill. The program is for parents and caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illness. Topics will include an introduction, getting an accurate diagnosis, treatment options, communication skills, problem solving, crisis preparation and response, handling challenging behaviors, relapse planning, record keeping, and dealing with school and juvenile activities.
