Gov. Rick Scott will have nine experienced law enforcement officers to choose from when naming Bob White’s replacement as the Pasco County Sheriff.
White, 60, will officially retire April 30, citing a desire to spend more time with his granddaughter. Scott spokesman Brian Hughes said the governor hopes to name his replacement by the week White steps aside. The Pasco Sheriff’s salary is $145,856 per year.
Those applying for the job include:
Franklin Baker Jr., 48, has been a captain in the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office since 1981.
Kim Bogart, 58, is a former Pasco Sheriff’s Office commander.
Wayne Chaffin, 47, worked with the Tampa Police Department since 1996. He is a Pasco resident.
Jeff Deremer, 40, is a probation officer who ran for the position in 2008. He lost in the Democratic primary to Bogart in 2008 and eventually endorsed White in the general election.
Roger Joseph Fortney, 58, was a corporal with the Pasco Sheriff’s Office from 1989-2009.
Michael Foxx, 65, was a sergeant in the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office when he retired in 2002.
Brian Head, 46, is a major with the Pasco Sheriff’s Office and oversees the Land O’ Lakes Detention Center.
Chris Nocco, 35, is a major with the Pasco Sheriff’s Office and oversees the law enforcement aspects of the department. Nocco was one of current U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio’s aides when he was the Florida Speaker of the House.
Kerry O’Connor, 47, worked as a sergeant with the Pasco Sheriff’s Office when she left in 2003 to practice law.
All except Bogart and Deremer are Republicans.
