Pasco County Commission District 5

August 9, 2012 By Special to The Laker/Lutz News

Name: William “Bill” Gunter

Age: 42

Residence: New Port Richey

Occupation: ordained minister/senior pastor of Redeemer Community Church

Political affiliation: Republican

Political experience: None

Office being sought: Pasco County Commissioner District 5

Bill Gunter

Why are you running for this office?

I believe our county is in desperate need of new leadership from the current leader(s). New leadership will bring new ideas and a fresh way of looking at things, as well as restore a better relationship with the job creators in our community than the tainted one we currently have. My focus is toward economic development by working with small businessmen and women and implementing commonsense policies that encourage more jobs We need long-term strategies based on informed leadership, not the same old, same old of reactionary governance.

What are your top three priorities?

No response given
Why should voters choose you?

I have a 23-year track record of high ethics and leadership of people from all walks of life. I am not entering this race for political self-interest, but strictly to serve our community. I will approach this office as I have my role as a pastor – with integrity and humility, with a servant’s attitude and the mentality of doing what is right for the community, not just my personal agendas. My decisions will be based on principles, common sense and from listening to the wisdom of those who know better than I: the businessmen and women and citizens of Pasco.

What qualifications do you bring to the job?

The qualifications I bring to the county commission are 23 years of pastoral ministry, which include business plans, budgeting, hiring, education, training, counseling and planning. I have taught leadership in the college classroom and around the world in places like Egypt, Kenya, South Africa and Jordan. I make tough decisions based on principles, not emotions. I have been a part of championship teams such as at the University of Florida under the tutelage of coach Steve Spurrier. I have been a high school coach, a member of the Rotary and am currently a chaplain for the Pasco Sheriff’s Office. I also have chaired boards of church organizations for more than 12 years. I also served on committees within my denomination. All told, I have the convictions, ethics and determination to do what is right for the people I serve, regardless of the consequences to me personally.
