Christian Social Services’ Red Barn Thrift Store, 5514 Land O’ Lakes Blvd, in Land O’ Lakes, will accept donations of nonperishable food, clothing, housewares, linens, books and more. Each person donating will receive “donor dollars” that can be used in the thrift store. The store is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations and purchases help Christian Social Services meet the needs of financially challenged community members.
Friends seeking books
The Friends of the Land O’ Lakes Library, 2818 Collier Parkway, is looking for new members and gently used books for all ages. Books can be donated at the library Tuesday through Saturday. New member applications can be obtained, filled out and submitted at the library. Members meet the third Wednesday of the month at 2:45 p.m., in the library conference room. 05/17/2016 – Boy Scouts’ metal drive
Boy Scout Troop 33 of Land O’ Lakes is hosting a metal drive through May 16. All money from recycling will go to the troop. All metal will be accepted, as well as appliances, grills, swing sets, compressors, electric motors, pots and pans, wire, old bicycles, garage doors, metal fencing, circuit boards, junk cars, radiators and more. Cars will be towed for free.
Donations can be dropped off in a bin at the back of the parking lot at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 2348 Collier Parkway in Land O’ Lakes. Aluminum cans go in the container by the dumpsters at the church. Metal also can be taken directly to Pasco Iron & Metal at 21240 Lake Patience Road in Land O’ Lakes (tag the donation for the troop and ask for receipt). 04/19/2016 – Zephyrhills Art Club
The Zephyrhills Art Club will meet on April 19 at 7 p.m., in Zephyr Park, 38116 Fifth Ave. The evening will be a night of celebration of the winners of the annual art show. Congregation Kol Ami, 3919 Moran Road in Tampa, will present the film “Raise the Roof” on April 17 at 10:30 a.m. The feature documentary on reconstructing the roof and ceiling of the Gwozdziec synagogue is by Yari and Cary Wolinsky. Colt Creek State Park, 16000 State Road 471 in Lakeland, will host a family day on April 17 from noon to 4 p.m. There will be tram tours, guided horseback rides, a photography hike, geocaching, ranger-led guided hikes, fishing and instruction, canoeing and kayaking, recycling education, a butterfly display, a K-9 unit demonstration, a children’s crime prevention unit, a fire-fighting helicopter and Smokey the Bear.
