Charlie Croucher, of Land O’ Lakes, was in his backyard when he captured this photo of a great blue heron with a catfish in its mouth.
Pets/Wildlife
Shiloh loves a good nap
Long-necked and long-legged
David Pagni, of Wesley Chapel, snapped photos of this wood stork that was flying around the pond at the entrance to Seven Oaks. Wood storks are hefty wading birds with football-shaped bodies perched atop long legs. They fly with their neck and legs outstretched but tend to perch with the neck drawn in, giving them a humpbacked appearance.
Loki is loving and smart
Loki will be 2 years old in May and loves to talk all the time. He calls his brothers, Tyler and Ryan, constantly because he loves to play peek-a-boo with them. Loki even watches the boys do their online schoolwork. Loki loves to wrestle with his daddy, and he likes to cuddle and mutter on mommy’s shoulder at bedtime. He’s like a little green puppy with wings. Loki has learned over 20 words and phrases, he’s working on potty training, and he’s even learning to sing (so far he just knows the words “happy birthday”). Loki just loves to be with the family, and bedtimes wouldn’t be right without him there for story time and tuck-ins, and kisses good night. Loki lives with the Harkness family in Wesley Chapel, and they wouldn’t know what to do without him.
A beauty to behold
Sharon Thompson, on a recent stroll, snapped this photo of a luna moth in Country Walk, in Wesley Chapel. The luna moth is part of group commonly known as giant silk moths. It has lime-green colored wings and a white body. This moth’s wingspan can stretch 4 1/2 inches, which is about the same length as an iPhone.
Living the good life
Peanut and Daisy celebrated their first birthday on Jan. 18. They are both rescues from The Humane Society of Tampa Bay. They are amazing, smart, caring and loving, and look after one another. Peanut and Daisy live with their parents, Dianne and Fred Rodriguez, in Land O’ Lakes.
Coco has tons of personality
Coco is a female, tortoise shell (‘tortie,’ for short). She loves to follow her owner around all day, especially now that her ‘mom’ works from home. Affectionate yet reclusive, Coco is a quiet girl that prefers a small circle. Her favorite activities are chasing lizards on the porch, napping, and playing with her catnip toys. Coco lives with Mary McElwee in Wesley Chapel.
Looking for a great catch
Gary Owens snapped this incredible shot of an osprey on Lake Heron, where he lives. Ospreys search for fish by flying on steady wingbeats and bowed wings or circling high in the sky over relatively shallow water. This bird of prey often will hover briefly before diving, feet first, to grab a fish. An osprey’s wingspan is about 5 feet.
Baylie is a fighter
Baylie is a rescue pup and is now 14 years old. She is a little troublemaker, even in her old age. Baylie is a very strong-willed, happy-go-lucky dog. She loves laying outside and rubbing her nose in the dirt. Baylie’s health hasn’t been the best because of cancer, but she keeps on fighting. She loves her family just as much as they love her. Baylie lives with Tiffany Hardy in Wesley Chapel.
Lunch companion
Lillian Cucuzza, of Land O’ Lakes, spotted a Northern Harrier at Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland. This one caught a lizard and perched right in front of her to eat it. The harrier is a bit different from other hawks as they have a white band where its tail begins from the body, and they have a face that almost resembles an owl.
