Family film favorites

Tampa Theatre, 711 N. Franklin St., in downtown Tampa, will offer its Kid-Inspired Movie Series, with discounted tickets of $8 for ages 3 to 12. Adult tickets are $10. All shows are at 3 p.m.

  • April 2: “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” (1989, Comedy, PG)
  • April 9: “The NeverEnding Story” (1984, Fantasy, PG)
  • April 16: “Akeelah & The Bee” (2006, Drama, PG)
  • April 23: “TRON” (1982, Sci-Fi, PG)
  • April 30: “Toy Story” (1995, Animated, G). Prior to this movie, guests can pose in front of a green screen and take home a free souvenir photo, in the lobby.

04/01/2023 – Food Truck Festival

An International Food Truck Festival will take place on April 1 and April 2 at the Tampa Premium Outlets, 2300 Grand Cypress Drive in Lutz, with more than 70 food trucks, tents and trailers, to benefit local charities. Admission is $5. For more information, call 727-674-1464.

04/01/2023 – HoppyFest

Pasco County Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources will host “HoppyFest” on April 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Wesley Chapel Recreation Complex, 7727 Boyette Road in Wesley Chapel. Egg hunt age groups: 0 to 2 years, 10:15 a.m.; 3 to 5 years, 11 a.m.; 6 to 8 years, 11:45 a.m.; 9 to 12 years, 12:15 p.m. Participants should bring a bag or bucket to collect eggs. The Imagine Museum, a contemporary glass art gallery in St. Petersburg, is offering free admission now through November to veterans, active-duty military, first responders and their immediate family members, in recognition of National Veterans and Military Families Month. The museum plans to showcase its “Flight and Illusion” installation, a series of military-themed glass art created by museum founder Trish Duggan. 04/22/2023 – Pet Palooza

Due the inclement weather for its original March date, Terlep Chiropractic’s Pet Palooza has been rescheduled to April 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at its clinic, 8466 Northcliffe Blvd., in Spring Hill. Guests are asked to bring a donation of unopened dog food, cat food or kitty litter to receive a special chiropractic offer. Pets are welcome to attend, too. Patients who donate dog/cat food or kitty litter will receive vouchers for an adjustment and hydrotherapy massage. New patient donors will receive a consultation, exam and X-ray. There also will be free tacos, shaved ice, inflatable games, face painting, a pet parade, and petting zoo. Local vendors will be giving away items for pets and there will be raffle baskets. All proceeds will go to five animal charities, including Hernando County SPCA, FurEver Friends, Humane Society of the Nature Coast, Paw Warriors and K-9 Partners for Patriots. Four local animal shelters will be on site for adoptions.

04/11/2023 – Virtual Pet Pageant

Gulfside Hospice will host its virtual Pet Pageant to raise funds for its Pet Peace of Mind program, which supports hospice patients and their pets during the end-of-life journey. The community is invited to enter their pet for the chance to be named “Best Pet Pal of Pasco 2023,” while also helping to bring comfort, care and companionship to hospice patients and their pets. Furry, feathered, finned or fanged pets can be entered in the online pageant for a $10 fee, at GulfsidePets.org. Each contestant submits a photo of their pet with a 100-word description, and receives an online pet contestant page to share with friends and family to ask for votes. Each vote is $1. The deadline to enter is April 10 at noon. Winners will be announced on National Pet Day, April 11. Award categories include Most Photogenic (determined by a volunteer committee) and Most Popular (voted for by the community through donations). Winners will receive a prize basket. 04/15/2023 – Charity Yard Sale

The Lexington Oaks Women’s Club will host a Charity Community Yard Sale on April 15 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., in Preakness Village at Lexington Oaks, on Wesley Chapel Boulevard and Lexington Oaks Boulevard, near Old Pasco Road. Look for the Women’s Club sign. All proceeds will go to charity.

04/15/2023 – Absolutely Avalon

Avalon Park Wesley Chapel will host “Absolutely Avalon” on April 15 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will include a laser light show, kids’ activities, food trucks, cultural performances, and artisan, craft and business vendors. 04/14/2023 to 04/16/2023 – Rodeo and Festival

Bartow Ford will present the Tampa Bay Rodeo and Family Festival at the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds. Rodeo competitions including bull riding, barrel racing and bronco busting will take place on April 14 and April 15, along with the festival that will offer food, games, animals and live music. Parents can register their little cowpokes on site for “mutton bustin’.” The Sunday Family Festival Day will be on April 16 and will include mechanical bull riding, ax throwing, games and face painting. 04/21/2023 to 04/23/2023 – Operation Stand Down

The veterans-only event, Operation Stand Down, will take place from April 21 to April 23, at The Concourse Rotary Pavilion, 11919 Alric Pottberg Road in Shady Hills. Transportation will be provided for veterans who want to attend all three days and stay overnight at Fivay High School. Pre-registration for overnight must be made by April 7. Service providers will be on site on April 21 and April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; workshops focusing on whole health and community resources will be offered from 2:15 p.m. to 5 p.m., followed by dinner. Services provided at the event will include: legal advice; housing assistance; VA benefits/SSDI/SSI; education/trades; gift cards/donations; dental/dentures; medical/immunizations; personal hygiene/haircuts; food stamps; employment opportunities; hot meals, and more.
